-- Iran’s exports to Africa at $1.2b in year to late March: IRICA

Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA) figures show exports to Africa reached a total of $1.2 billion in the year to late March.

IRICA Spokesman Rouhollah Latifi said on Saturday that shipments sent to Africa over the past calendar year had accounted for only 2.5 percent of all Iranian exports, Press TV reported.

Latifi said Iranian exports had reached 50 out of 55 African countries over the period. Total shipments had amounted to over 2.5 million tons in volume, he said, adding that imports from Africa into Iran had stalled at a tiny figure of just over $60 million for just more than 65,000 tons of goods over the same period.

-- Gilan welcomes investments in tourism sector: MP

The northern province of Gilan is ready to attract domestic and foreign investment in the tourism sector, said the head of the Gilan Assembly of Lawmakers, adding that efforts are underway to form a chamber for attraction of investment and issuing tourism licenses to facilitate the investment process.

Talking to Iran Daily, Rasoul Farrokhi said, “Investors in the tourism industry can follow their requests through the chamber instead of referring to various organizations and governmental bodies.”

Referring to the abundant tourism potential of his province, the MP said, “These capacities are very prominent, especially in the field of tourism, as they have access to the most pristine sights and attractions in the mountains and forests.”

-- Persian saffron: ‘Red gold’ of Iran

One of the world’s most costly spices, saffron is procured from “saffron crocus,” a flower native mostly to Asia. One of the reasons behind the high price is the fact that this spice cannot be found except in a handful of places. Hence, saffron has been nicknamed “Red gold”.

Although you can find saffron in a few places besides Iran, Persian saffron has no rival when it comes to its superb flavor, mesmerizing color and excellent quality.

-- Iran Starts First Transfer of Russian Goods to India

Iran’s state-run shipping company said it started its first transfer of Russian goods to India, using a new trade corridor that transits the Islamic Republic, an Iranian port official said.
The Russian cargo consists of two 40-foot (12.192 meters) containers of wood laminate sheets, weighing 41 tons, that departed St. Petersburg for the Caspian Sea port city of Astrakhan, the Islamic Republic News Agency said on Saturday, citing Dariush Jamali, director of a joint-owned Iranian-Russian terminal in Astrakhan.

-- Volleyballers Defeat Australia at Men’s VNL 2022

Iran defeated Australia in the 2022 Volleyball Nations League (VNL) in Brasilia, Brazil early Sunday.
The 16 best men’s volleyball national teams in the world are battling in the opening week of the Volleyball Nations League 2022 in Ottawa, Canada, and Brasilia, Brazil.
Iran, who had defeated China 3-1 in their opening match, played Australia early Sunday.

-- ‘Oman’s Iran Imports Grow 126%’

Iranian business attaché in the Embassy in Muscat Mehrdad Fallah Orimi says that Iran’s exports of goods to Oman in the first two months of 1401 reached $203 million, indicating a 126% increase compared to the same period last year.
Fallah Orimi said that Iranian commodities exports to Oman in the first two months of 1401 (beginning on March 21, 2022) mounted to $203 million, showing an increase of 126% in value compared to the same period last year.

-- Iran FM talks to UN chief, calls IAEA resolution hasty, politically-motivated

Iran's Foreign Minister has chastised the United States and its three European allies, the United Kingdom, France, and Germany, for filing an anti-Iranian resolution to the International Atomic Energy Agency's Board of Governors, calling the move “hasty and politically motivated”.

Hossein Amir Abdollahian made the remarks during a Saturday night phone conversation with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres.

-- Iran's cereal production to rise 34% in 2022: FAO

Cereal production in Iran is expected to grow 34.2 percent in 2022, while the imports of such products are seen to drop 25 percent, according to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO)’s latest Food Outlook report released last week.

Based on the said report, the Islamic Republic is expected to produce 19.2 million tons of cereals in 2022, 4.9 million tons more than the figure for the previous year in which the total production stood at 14.3 million tons.

-- Archaeologists in eastern Iran excavate relics from 4th millennium BC

Archaeologists have recently a wide range of relics and ruined structures that date from the 4th millennium BC onwards. “We have discovered evidence of early urbanization which coincides with the Uruk period (ca. 4000 to 3100 BC),” ILNA quoted archaeologist Mohammad-Hossein Azizi Kharanaghi as saying on Sunday.

The findings were made during the third archaeological excavation season which, has just come to an end in the Kale-Kub archaeological site, situated in Sarayan county of South Khorasan province.
