Iran, Turkmenistan have deep relations: President Raisi

Tehran, Karafarinane Eghtesad – President Ebrahim Raisi said that the relationship between Iran and Turkmenistan is deep and of kinship quality.

Speaking in a joint press conference with Turkmenistan’s President Serdar Berdimohamedow who is on a visit to Tehran, Raisi said that this trip could serve as a turning point in Tehran-Ashgabat relations.

President Raisi noted that the two countries have had good relations in the last three decades and on his last year trip to Ashgabat activated some collaborations, especially in gas swap and transportation areas.

He called for more cooperation between Iran and Turkmenistan in economy, trade, water, and energy by signing agreements and MoUs.

He also praised the former Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow for his efforts in strengthening the ties between the two nations and expressed hope that the trend would continue in his son’s tenure.

Raisi noted that Iran’s determination to sign a deal outlining the two countries' relations for the next 20 years was an indication of the significance of ties with Turkmenistan.

The Iranian president welcomed the upcoming Caspian Sea states' meeting which will be hosted by Turkmenistan.

The Turkmen president said that he and President Raisi discussed cooperation on energy and transportation and agreed to join forces in that direction.

Berdimohamedow said that they also discussed issues surrounding the Caspian Sea and that he invited President Raisi to attend the upcoming meeting.
