Exclusive: President says deeper regional ties will render U.S. sanctions ineffective

President Pezeshkian says interaction with regional countries would render the sanctions imposed by the United States ineffective.

Tehran, Karafarinane Eghtesad – President Masoud Pezeshkian has once again stressed the need for unity and cohesion at home, as well as interactions, trade, and cooperation with regional countries to overcome challenges.

Pezeshkian made the remarks on the sidelines of a Saturday visit to the Islamic Republic News Agency (Karafarinane Eghtesad), when reporters asked him about the most important concern for his government.

“Our concern is a proud Iran with the vision outlined by the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, which is to achieve the top position in economy, science, industry, and culture in the region,” he responded.

The president continued that the next issue is interaction with regional countries, which, if realized effectively, would render the sanctions imposed by the United States ineffective, allowing Iran to overcome all pressures with strength, dignity, and pride.

“These issues could pave the way for the vision we were seeking,” the president said, adding it would, however, require the attention of entrepreneurs, industrialists, scientists, elites, and managers and interaction with neighboring countries just like the commitments “we have with China and Russia in relation to Eurasia, BRICS, and Shanghai.”

In response to another question regarding inflation and economic problems, Pezeshkian said his government has prioritized solving the livelihood issues of the people.

The economic problem requires a “scientific solution” and domestic unity instead of blame games, the president said.
